2D Game Dev: Tools for Getting Started

As I mentioned in my presentation, there is a great software to develop games without having to learn a programming language : Game Develop, I used to create games with it before and today, it's even more powerful (and open source since some day).

I agree. Game develop is an awesome piece of sofftware for people who aren't good at programming (some bases in programming are an advantage though) and is really easy to use. It only lacks some good games to demonstrate it's power.
With it you can create games for Windows, linux and web.
I believe it's better for create small game rather than complete big ones (but it is possible).

By the way, a feature to create games on smartphones is coming. Or maybe this is a new software. To check.

As a programmer getting into game development I have found the Corona SDK to be a lot of fun. It allows me to use my own text editor and environment, has a good emulator, and Lua is pretty easy to pick up. I haven't done anything serious in it yet, mostly just prototypes.

i put up a hex map a while back using corona. spent a day and made a basic implementation of joust (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ifg00fG1Xy8) but i kind of gave up on it for a while. had trouble figuring out how to make a rope swing.

I've just found Construct 2. Great and simple tool for making games. No coding required.
